What kind of bird are you?

Everyone has been talking about Wes Anderson's newest film, Moonrise Kingdom, since it came out this fall.  After watching, and re-watching it over the past month, I have developed a semi unhealthy relationship with this movie that may be borderline obsessive.  It was an aesthetic dream, with it's prevalent yellow and green color schemes, and 1960's nostalgia.  Every time I think about the movie my eyes go all wide and buggy, and I get way too excited.

The story, for those who have not yet seen it, revolves around young Sam and Suzy.  Sam and Suzy meet at a church play one summer, and have chemistry right from the start.  They become pen pals and quickly hatch a plan to run away together.  When they run away, total mayhem ensues as Sam's khaki scout troop, the local police, and Suzy's parents all search for the children.

Icon Illustration

I've been wanting to draw Lady Gaga for a while now, because she's become very iconic in pop culture... That, and I absolutely love her.  There's something magical about Gaga and how she presents herself to the public.  We don't know every hairy detail of her life, and the only time she's really in tabloids is when her fashion choices are making headlines.  I know a lot of people dislike her for her general weirdness, but equally there are people (myself included) who admire her because she is an artist.  She has a weird and wonderful mind, that comes up with insane visions which she can inevitably make realities in her AMAZING music videos.

I took me a while to find a picture that I wanted to draw from, mainly because I couldn't figure out how I wanted to portray her.  Gaga puts on so many different faces, that I could go in a million different directions, but I really wanted to capture the essence of her, and I think I did her justice...  I picked something classic, with old Hollywood glamour, and tried to work in her severity and whimsy in.

Playtime

Yay! Outfit photos!  It was cold today, and I wanted to go with something more casual since both of my previous posts were more dressed up.  My sister and I were the only people in the park, so it made for plenty of good photo-ops.

I wasn't really in a being photographed mood, but I'm glad I went ahead and took some pictures.

Back to the 90's

You may, or may not know what I'm talking about.  The oversized denim jackets covered with patches and DIY'd within an inch of existence, ripped jeans, grunge, plaid flannel, high waisted pants -- the list goes on... Lately I've noticed people returning to a 90's style aesthetic.  It's true, we live in a world that is aesthetically characterized by a nostalgia for things that happened 10+ years ago.  And with that nostalgia comes intermittent revivals in terms of what people find aesthetically pleasing.  Maybe I'm just homing in on the amazing wardrobe that I saw in Stephen Chbosky's movie adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower, but I keep seeing 90's references popping up all over the place.  I can't complain about the whole 90's style comeback.  I was a kid who thought that life would look like it did for the girls in The Babysitter's club when I grew up.

What's fun about trend revival is that it always comes with a new twist, and (I'd like to think) that we only bring back the best trends, leaving the more hideous parts of the aesthetic in the past.

Alien shorts anyone?

Who, who, who are you?

I decided it was time to do another outfit post! At long last!

Also... for anyone who happens upon this blog, yes! I did get my hair cut between this post and my first outfit post.  And I'm loving it.

My dog is insanely cute, and I'm loving the 80's/50's vibes of this outfit...

Good Natured

I have been spending a ton of time going on walks outdoors this fall, and not dressing up quite as much as I should be for someone who wanted to start a fashion blog.  In lieu of an outfit post, I decided to post a bunch of nature photography that I've accumulated over the past three weeks, as the leaves change and fall progresses.

There's nothing quite like a Michigan fall!

Autumn Sunshine

Nothing puts me in the mood for fall quite like orchards.  I went to the orchard today with my mom and sister, and we got apple cider.  I also took my first set of outfit photos for this blog!  Cue the applause.

My head turned into a pumpkin, and I was the most overdressed person picking apples...
